The Future of Fire Protection: the CD PROJEKT RED building in Warsaw sets new safety standards in timber architecture
As part of the development delivered by the construction company Skanska acting as the general contractor, Nordtreat carried out comprehensive fire protection for the striking façade made of structural glued laminated timber. This project shows that it is possible to reconcile the aesthetics of timber architecture with uncompromising fire protection, through the use of innovative technologies and expert collaboration.

Collaboration to protect the timber façade structure
The impressive timber façade of the CD PROJEKT RED building was made from pine glulam elements produced by Andrewex Construction, a manufacturer of timber structures known for quality, precision, and commitment to sustainability. Recognizing the crucial importance of fire protection in contemporary timber architecture, Andrewex Construction partnered with Nordtreat. The goal was to ensure that the glulam elements would meet the stringent Euroclass B‑s1,d0 classification standards as well as PN‑B‑02867 (non‑propagation of fire).
A specialist training session was held at the Andrewex Construction plant, led by Pekka Hurri, Nordtreat’s Vice President of Services. During the training, the Andrewex Construction team learned comprehensive methods for the correct application of NORFLAM® Flame Retardants. This innovative fire retardant, based on natural components, not only ensures compliance with European fire safety standards but also preserves the wood’s natural beauty and texture.

Quality and Safety
Serafin Jerzy Szyszka, Director of Contract Delivery at Andrewex Construction, emphasized the importance of this collaboration for the company’s continued development.
“The use of Nordtreat’s NORFLAM® flame retardants, combined with Andrewex Construction’s proper design of glulam elements for the CD PROJEKT RED building, not only catches the eye but, above all, meets the highest fire safety standards. This successful cooperation provides a solid foundation for delivering further ambitious projects.”

“For projects of this scale and complexity, trust in partners and confidence, that every stage, from design to execution, will be carried out at the highest level, are key. Thanks to our cooperation with Andrewex Construction and Nordtreat, we achieved a result that combines aesthetics, durability, and safety without compromise"

A project important for Warsaw and timber architecture
CD PROJEKT RED, a globally recognized Polish video‑game developer, is renowned for innovation, creativity, and the highest quality standards. The new building reflects these traits: modernity, sustainability, and attention to quality and detail. The use of timber elements in the building’s architecture symbolizes an unconventional approach to sustainable urban construction, while demonstrating that safety and aesthetics can go hand in hand.
The project delivered by the construction company Skanska is more than another successful development, it is a benchmark for the entire construction industry. It shows how early collaboration and the deployment of modern technologies such as NORFLAM® Flame retardants can significantly raise safety standards in timber structures worldwide. It is also an exceptional example of glulam in block sections being used as an external structural element.
