Nordtreat closes EUR 4 million financing round to support international growth

Founded in 2015, Nordtreat manufactures non-harmful fire retardant chemicals for building materials made from renewable raw materials. Nordtreat's products replace traditional fire retardants that contain compounds that are harmful to humans and the environment, such as boric acid, formaldehyde, and ammonia.

Nordtreat has to date invested over EUR 3 million in the development of its non-harmful fire retardant technology. The latest funding round will enable significant investments to scale production in the company's Vantaa, Finland-based factory as well as, the company's product portfolio, and sales footprint.

The lead investor in the funding round was Taaleri, a Nordic investment, and asset manager with an emphasis on renewable energy and alternative investments. Taaleri has EUR 2.2 bn of assets under management in its private equity funds and co-investments. The company has approximately 120 employees. Taaleri Plc is listed on Nasdaq Helsinki.

“We are very pleased that Taaleri was given the opportunity to participate in Nordtreat’s private placement. The company is set to be one of the first investment targets for our bioindustry fund, and we see great potential for its international growth. We believe that the demand for sustainable fire retardants will increase in the international construction product industry as the sustainability requirements of developers become stricter,”

Tero Saarno, Director of Taaleri Bioindustry

Other notable investors in the funding round were Latvian-based Skinest Asset Management, Swedish Family and Friends Invest AB, and Finnish SPV Investments Oy.

In connection with the latest funding round, Nordtreat made corporate arrangements, whereby Nordtreat Holding Inc, registered in Finland has acquired the other companies in the Nordtreat Group.
